andlt;bandgt;More About The Sunrise Trailandlt;/bandgt;: What You Will See And Enjoy. This walk begins south of the Arena at the Smallwood Recplex on Arena Road. The trail passes through a patch of small trees and shrubs to Emberly Place and Commonwealth Avenue. Originally called West Cross Road because it 'Crossed' rather than 'Followed' the lay of the land. Commonwealth Avenue became known as Marconi Road after the HMS Wireless Station was built on Old Placentia Road in 1915. Cross Smallwood Drive and pick up the trail off to your right. Just ahead, turn left, cross the bridge and turn right.andlt;BRandgt;andlt;BRandgt; This section of forested Trail passes between the former communities of Glendale, to the north and New Town to the south. Both were 'Planned' communities, with New Town following the concepts of the British New Towns Model and developed by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation in 1967, and Glendale developed by Businessman Roland Morris, who acquired the land from Cheif Justice Little's heir in 1923. The town of Mount Pearl Park - Glendale was incorporated in 1955. The addition of New Town further increased it's population, contributing to Mount Pearl receiving city status in 1988. Cross one of the bridges ahead and turn right to continue upstream.andlt;BRandgt;andlt;BRandgt; Turn right at the church and cross under Ruth Avenue, through the pedestrian tunnel. Turn left past Mount Pearl Junior High School. From here Walk passes through the residential area of Power's Pond, built between 1984 and 1991. Proceed to the end of the first soccer pitch and turn right onto ashphalt path. Continue along, with the sports field and tennis court always on your left. Cross the bridge and turn left to follow the trail straight ahead to Michener Avenue, and Power's Pond Park, where this trail ends.andlt;BRandgt;andlt;BRandgt;
