This sign tells a little about the early settlement of Torbay.andlt;BRandgt;andlt;BRandgt; It reads: andlt;bandgt;Early Fishing Plantation Sitesandlt;/bandgt;: Prior to the permanent settlement of Torbay being established in the mid 1700's the migran English fishermen visited Torbay on an annual basis dating back to the 1600's. Their fishing season generally extended from May to September after which they returned home to England.andlt;BRandgt;andlt;BRandgt;These migrand fisherman fished from pnantations in various sites located between Watt's Cove and Green's Cove [ Now Tappers Cove ] Title to these plantations was generally of an unregistered leasehold nature which often resulted in disputes that had to be settled by the courts. These plantations, situate alnog th steeep and rocky shoreline were in all probability located on the most valuable and prized real estate in Torbay during that paricular era. -Torbay Hertiage Committee.
